Camille Paglia's New Column - McCain, Palin, and Trouble for Obama
Every now and then I'm asked how can I, a conservative, be a fan of Camille Paglia. Well, for a number of reasons. Paglia is a self-described,"liberterian atheist," a self-described, "dissident feminist," and an Obama supporter. How she comes to support Obama (or other Liberals, for that matter) by being a libertarian, is beyond me, but it's so.
Paglia, wrong on some of the more important political issues of the day, is NEVER intellectually dishonest, and will take a razor blade to her own folks just as quick as ours. I would even go so far as to assume she has more allies on the Right side of the aisle than on the Left. This may or may not be true. But she is certainly hated in orthodox femminist circles.
Conservatives typically have no problem with having an argument with Liberals, or even not winning the arguement provided that the argument is an honest one. And we rarely see this from the Left.
But from Camille Paglia, we always get honesty, even if we know she's dead wrong. We don't have to stop and wade through a mountain of intellectully dishonest phrases and premises to get to the argument itself. She stakes out her argument and we stake out ours, now let's rumble.
Her latest column is an excellent example of this. Read it here.
